Top 5 NGO internships

  1. United Nations (UN)
    • United Nations Headquarters and regional institutions intern positions will be posted on the UN CAREER site.
    • Applicants search for job opening at the bottom of the page, select the category of the internship, and then choose their interest accordingly.
  2. World Health Organization (WHO)
    • WHO is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries. and monitoring and assessing health trends. 
    • WHO aim is to enable people around the world to obtain high health standards.
    • WHO provides a 6-12 week internship to schools, specific requirements can be viewed in the Job Vacancies sections.
  3. International Maritime Organization (IMO)
    • Headquartered in London, IMO is a Gov-to-Gov body to improve maritime safety, prevent marine pollution, and enhance maritime technical cooperation.
    • Applicants need to obtain recommendations from appropriate government agency, universities, or research institutes.
    • Research proposals are required and applicants need to fill out the application form and send it to the relevant mailbox.
  4. International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL)
    • Interpol specializes in investigation and combating cross-border crime.
    • Departments include Interpol General Assembly, the Executive Committee, the Secretariat and the National Central Bureau. 
    • Interpol is the second largest international organization (after the UN) and is the world's largest police organization, comprising 188 Member States. Its purpose is to ensure and promote the cooperation of Member States' criminal police department in preventing and combating criminal offenses.
    • Internship location for Lyon, France, or other regional offices. Internship period is 2-11 months. Interpol will provide a stipend for the intern but there is no fixed working hours.

  5. International Air Transport Association (IATA)
    • IATA is the highest authority of air transport enterprises with a Standing Committee in charge of legal, operational, financial and technical.
    • There are two internship options, lasting from two to six months, specialties include: economic, legal, political, engineering, business administration and information technology. 
    • The first International Graduate Internship Program (IGIP) provides a one year full-time paid internship.
