NGO internships experience in Hong Kong (Part III)

August 8 is lecture day. We learned about group counseling in the morning, and establishment of relationships and tentative behavior in the afternoon. Both teachers spoke quite well. In the afternoon, the lecturer gave a lot of fresh examples on the types and principles of handling behavior of social workers. These examples gave us a lot of experience that they did not have in the Mainland.

On August 9, we organized the Hong Kong Cultural Day. We went to the Hong Kong Infrastructure Museum and the Correctional Services Museum. In the afternoon, we went to Stanley Square, Repulse Bay and the Police Museum. Along the way, we have the activities of the overall head has been acting as our guide, carefully for us to explain, so that we have a certain understanding of the history and culture of Hong Kong. On the evening of August 9th, We went to the street to search for those who are under the age of 18 runaway or homeless teens. Association will send out two pairs of outreach night, were driving to a different place to search.

On 11 August, the Social Services Visitors' Day was arranged. We went to the Young Women's Christian Association of Hong Kong, Youth Employment Start, Salvation Army - Sham Shui Po Family Support Network and Caritas - Ngau Tau Kok Community Center. Everywhere we went, we were warmly received, and we gave a detailed introduction to their services. So that we can have a more comprehensive understanding of Hong Kong's social services. Caritas in Hong Kong to visit, we also went to see their community service center, is a real shock. We saw a real community service center, a lot of people in the library reading a quiet study, a small number of Indonesian families chat together, the old lady grandfather busy in their own thing, students quiet study, the wall is the most recent Some with the vital interests of community residents and their response to the event, the board is the traces of some activities left, which is very rare in the Mainland.

NGO internships experience in Hong Kong (Part II)

On the afternoon of August 6th, we conducted a preliminary visit to the Association. On the 7th of August, during the day, the Association provided a day-long adventure for us. The activities of the activity were mainly interesting and enlightening. The program consisted of fresh game activities where students were fully immersed in the the high quality of professionalism of Hong Kong social workers. In the afternoon we carried out outdoor activities in the city peak, we wear a safety rope from the third floor down to the first floor, thrills, while greatly improving our courage and self-confidence.

At night, a few students were assigned to the self-reliance practice experience. Self-reliance Hall is a transitional dormitory for unemployed and working youth, serving young people (aged under 24) who have reached the working age (aged 15 or above) but have no independent living ability and who are referred by the Social Welfare Department Young persons (under 21 years) who are subject to probation because of a minor criminal offense. Staff and our brief introduction, we began to self-reliance and the youth began to contact. We first entered the guys self-reliance hall. This situation makes me and two companions work confidence and work enthusiasm dropped. I and two have been busy playing the game of young people chat for a long time only to get a simple greeting, and my companions and other young people in the exchanges also run into the wall. We do not speak Cantonese very much, and most of the young men who stand in the hall do not speak Putonghua. Therefore, we have serious language barriers with them. This problem was also let us discouraged. After an hour of struggling we 3 disappointed together. But we did not cringe, but began to sum up just experience. I watched the whole church, I found a few young people busy playing games, do not bother us, I am prepared to play their own experience in the game they are only involved in delusion. Some of the other several in the Internet, some in the non-stop call, and some watching TV. And a young man seems to have just come back from the outside, a person bored to eat. So I decided to start with him, and Hongfang they decided to continue to use English and just a little understanding of young people point of exchange. So we find a good start after the re-start the target. This really achieved results, through the efforts I learned a lot of his basic information, access to initial trust, I have some of the more sensitive topics have tentative contact. My companion has also made a lot of gains.
